The TV star shares her favorite holiday gifts and decor

Before encouraging homeowners to get out of their comfort zones and embrace bold design on HGTV’s Breaking Bland this August, IOP-based Mary Welch Fox Stasik honed her aesthetic working in New York’s fashion and inteior design world, followed by a stint in the music industry. In 2011, she launched Mary Welch Design in Chicago and moved to Charleston a year later, hoping clients would connect with her nontraditional point of view, which she describes as a “little bit modern and a little bit rock ’n’ roll with an occasional shock factor or feel-good piece.” Here, the mother of two girls, and wife of Umphrey’s McGee bassist Ryan Stasik, shares her favorite holiday gifts, decor, and more.

Watch a promo of Mary Welch Fox Stasik's HGTV show Breaking Bland:

Q Do you have a favorite local nonprofit you volunteer with?
A
I love Cinderella Day, an incredible event that helps young girls who would otherwise not be able to afford to get dressed up for prom. It was incredible watching the girls’ faces light up. Who doesn’t love feeling like a princess?

Q Have you completed any renovations of your home recently?
A
We did a major renovation on our home on Isle of Palms in 2019. My favorite room is our laundry room because of the Flavor Paper “Eye of the Beholder” wallpaper and Kartel pendants carried at Iola Modern.

Q How do you decorate your house for the holidays?
A
Disco balls and greenery. Don’t get me wrong: I love big, beautiful timeless Christmas decor, but I need a touch of fun, so we add lots of tiny disco balls.

Q Where do you shop locally for gifts for friends and family?
A
Hampden Clothing, House of Nomad, and Celadon. This Demetria Chappo ”Spirit Eye Dish” from Celadon makes a great hostess gift.

Q What’s in your shopping cart you hope to purchase soon?
A
Local designer Theodosia’s “Small Candy Necklace” in labradorite, which helps balance stress and emotions. While I am lucky to have work, it can often be overwhelming juggling all of the balls I constantly have up in the air.

Q Tell us about your skin care routine.
A
I use a gentle cleanser, such as this Vital C hydrating facial cleanser, and Vitality Institute’s “Retinol Age-defying Treatment Moisturizer.”  I keep it simple and add in skin resurfacing treatments. I recently tried the Morpheus8 treatment from Coastal Collective, and I am telling you: Wow! It had major results.

Q Do you have a signature accessory?
A
I love a funky bag, like the versatile “Lake Jumbo” from Danse Lente, oversized earrings, such as these “Big Ol’ Hoops” from Goldbug, and long, bright nails in Essie’s “Vampy Brown” or Chanel’s “Cherry Red.”
