Style Q&A: Goop editor Caroline Griswold shares how she is embracing color and maximalism
September 2024

See what the College of Charleston grad is wearing this fall

As a freelance fashion editor for Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, this native New Yorker and College of Charleston grad styles digital fashion stories for the wellness and lifestyle brand and its partners. Before moving to Los Angeles, Griswold worked in New York for the Ralph Lauren events team and as an associate editor for Vogue, where she still contributes. Now back in Charleston, the fashion journalist says she’s leaning into print dresses for a little more of a “prep and grown-up” look. Here, she shares how she’s learning to embrace color and maximalism.

Q What do you find yourself incorporating into your closet more often since returning to Charleston?
A
I love being able to throw on a fun, printed dress—think Alix of Bohemia (left), Doen, or G. Label by Goop—with some ballet flats, like these from Loeffler Randall (above)—and being good to go. I feel more free to lean into color and maximalism than I would have in New York or Los Angeles.

Q Tell us about your skin-care routine.
A
I’ve been using all natural skin care products for around eight years. Right now, I’m loving the Good Clean Goop Beauty scrub (above) to keep in my shower, Joaquina Botanica’s fab vitamin C oil, and the bioactive mask from Lesse whenever my skin needs a refresher. I swear by the Laneige lip mask, which has a permanent spot on my bedside table.

Q What item in your closet did you splurge on?
A
My biggest splurges were definitely made for my wedding last September. I wore a custom corset top and silk skirt from Danielle Frankel, kitten heels from Neous, and a Judith Leiber clutch.

Q Any high-end pieces in your virtual shopping cart you are saving for?
A
Some pieces for fall I have my eye on are these “Davis” boots from Khaite (above), a gorgeous vintage Gucci bag, and I’ve been coveting a Penny Lane coat from Zazi for ages

Q What are your favorite local stores?
A
Hampden Clothing is a must for any designer shopping; I love that their selection includes up-and-coming designers like Alemais, Ciao Lucia, and Forte_Forte, as well as the greats, such as Marni and Dries Van Noten. Since I do a lot of online shopping and sourcing for work, it’s nice to be able to go somewhere local and see things in real life. I also love Hart Jewelry. The space is so beautiful, and it is the perfect shop to pop by with out-of-towners wanting a memento. They’ve come out with some fun enamel and shell-themed charms (above) that I snagged and am obsessed with!
