Sisal Creative founder Becca Barnet is “Making It” on Season 3 of the NBC reality show
July 2021

She shares how she expresses her creativity though her style picks

The founder of Sisal Creative has been creating since she could hold a pair of scissors, so when she had the opportunity to audition for the NBC reality crafting competition Making It hosted by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, she was up for the challenge. The taxidermist couldn’t reveal too many details about her appearance on Season 3, which premiered June 24, but she said the most demanding part was having just a few hours from concept to creation, “which is hard for someone who tends to overthink things and loves to ‘sleep on it’ when I’m dreaming up a project.” Here, Barnet shares how she expresses her creativity through her personal style and her most recent home project.

Q You have such a cool aesthetic. How does that translate into your wardrobe?
A
Aw, thanks! I am obsessed with clothes. It’s hard to describe my exact style, but I’d say it is laid-back, colorful, tailored, no frills or puffy things, maybe like a witchy unicorn from the ‘60s.

Q What is the most worn item in your closet?
A
My imogene + willie jeans and my black-heeled Blundstone boots; I wear them both to work every day.

Q What do you pull out of your closet on those hot and steamy days in July?
A
UZI NYC makes the breeziest clothes in really subtle colors and loose but flattering cuts. That’s my go-to for those hottest days.

Q Tell us about your latest home project.
A
We renovated our home in 2019, and I had the pleasure of designing it and furnishing it exactly the way I wanted! Lots of big white walls, natural light, and pops of fun color and pattern-mixing on rugs, artwork, and furniture—which was sourced from Hausful [including this credenza].

Q Which local designers and creatives do you have your eye on?
A
Lizzy Ervin’s gorgeous photos, Ink Meets Paper’s must-send cards, Kat Dunlap’s whimsical paintings, and Harken and Harbinger’s Greer Gilchrist’s cooking—she deserves an award for making the best gluten-free treats.

Q Will you share your skin care and beauty routine?
A
I try to only use cleanser when I really need to; water is the best! I use One Love Organics ”Botanical C Body Oil,” and Everyday Oil’s body oil is the best smelling stuff on the planet. I use Good Molecules serums to even my skin tone. I’m a bit of a minimalist when it comes to makeup. I wear Laura Mercier SPF primer, a bit of NARS blush, and never forget the eyebrows!
