Fashion designer Marysia Reeves returns to Charleston and shares her summer faves
August 2021

Since winning Charleston Fashion Week’s Emerging Designer Competition and launching her collection here in 2009, the designer has moved to New York and then Los Angeles, growing her Marysia luxury brand along the way. Best known for its scalloped-edge swimsuits, the line also includes travel-inspired sportswear and children’s swim. This spring, the former ballerina introduced a sport collection including a scalloped “Venus” dress and “Steffi” top. Always on the go, Reeves is relocating her family and her company’s distribution center to the Holy City, where she’s looking forward to reconnecting with friends. Here, Reeves shares her coast-to-coast style and beauty picks

Q What’s your go-to outfit for staying cool in late summer?
A
I love to wear one of the maillot swimsuits with a skirt, so I’m always ready to jump into a pool or the ocean. Also, the “Backless Seashell” dress (top) and the “San Onofre” dress (bottom). They are both super breezy, throw-on-and-go anywhere pieces.

Q Describe your personal style aesthetic.
A
I’d say my personal style is minimalist and feminine, but I design for a lot more than myself, so sometimes I wear things that are a bit more fun to support my brand.

Q What’s the most-worn item in your closet?
A
Our ”Seashell Palm Desert Blouse!” It’s the best year-round piece finished off by the little shell detail on the ties. It’s light for the summer and goes perfect under a jacket in winter.

Q Do you have a signature accessory?
A
I love my jewelry designer friends and their pieces. My Jane Pope “Mar” cuff (above left) is a simple yet powerful statement piece. She also made our custom 15th anniversary gold bands. Jenny Thompson of Theodosia makes fun jewelry. I love her gemstone chokers (above right).

Q Tell us about your latest collection.
A
The sportswear collection was a long time coming. I’m super active and very into wellness, but we already had so many categories and I never had the time to add one more. During the pandemic, we were forced to skip a collection so I used that time to design Sport.

Q What are you looking forward to most about returning to Charleston?
A
My friends and Charleston Power Yoga! I have an incredible circle of talented and supportive friends in Charleston, and we only grew closer while I was away for 10 years.

Q Share your must-have skin care and beauty products.
A
Circumference’s ”Clay Detox Face Mask” (top right) is amazing! It doesn’t dry you out. They just launched a face wash I can’t wait to try. Esker makes the most beautiful body oil and tools to get your lymphatic system going. I love Pursoma’s “Après Savasana” bath salt (top left) so much. It smells like heaven.
