Job Opportunity: Advertising Traffic Manager

GulfStream Communications, the award-winning publisher of Charleston, Charleston Weddings, Grand Strand, and WNC magazines, as well as the owner and producer of Charleston Fashion Week (CFW) and numerous websites, digital and social media initiatives, is seeking an Advertising Traffic Manager in its Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina based office with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferable in design, public relations, journalism, or communications
  • Minimum two-year experience in related field.
  • Knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign
  • Excellent Organization and planning skills. Ability to self-manage and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Self-starter, goal-oriented, and strategic thinker and consummate team player
  • Absolute ability to work under high-pressure environment, meet deadlines, and multi-task

Responsibilities will include:

Responsible for managing the flow of work to ensure that print ads are completed on time and within budget for publication. Ad traffic manager works closely with members of the account management and creative teams to ensure that work flows efficiently through the Company from the initial brief to the point where it is released to the printer (and other mediums where applicable).

  1. Work with sales team, editorial teams and management on Charleston print and digital products. Be valuable resource in Mt. Pleasant office to assist sales teams into ad placements into all of GulfStream products
  2. Work with sales teams in collecting advertising materials, communication with clients
  3. Keep solid databases with client contacts, print orders, interactions and next steps.
  4. Learn and actively use Magazine Manager
  5. Other related responsibilities as requested by senior management


Guaranteed annual base salary around $25,000 with commission/bonus upside based on achieving team sales goals in 2021 and beyond.

Job Opportunity: Assistant Editor

Charleston magazine, the award-winning city magazine for Charleston, South Carolina, is looking for an assistant editor. Our ideal candidate will have a deep interest in and ongoing engagement with life in Charleston and the broader Lowcountry region, as well as the ability to translate this into appealing, insightful articles for our audience. A positive attitude, team player, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment are musts.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Managing specific editorial sections and departments both for print and online (assigning, editing, and fact-checking articles, assisting art department with visuals, and translating to digital content)

  • Overseeing the production of the About Town calendar section with assistance by editorial interns

  • Assisting the managing editor in managing the Editorial Internship program

  • Proposing the schedule and writing the posts to promote editorial articles on social media

  • Organizing and overseeing the production of the weekly enewsletter

  • Participating in proofing all sections of the print magazine as well as web and marketing materials


  • Minimum of two years experience editing or writing regularly for print publication

  • General familiarity with life in Charleston

  • Passion for excellence in magazine journalism

Gulfstream Communications, award winning publisher of Charleston magazine, is looking for a passionate & talented graphic designer with at least 1-3 years of design experience to join our team. EDITORIAL INTERNSHIP: Charleston magazine

Explore the ins and outs of print and digital magazine publishing with this in-depth, hands-on opportunity to learn what is required to produce an award-winning monthly publication and its associated digital properties. During their time here, editorial interns will work closely with editorial staff, gaining invaluable insight and knowledge integral for career-track positions. Weekly assignments help hone skills such as copyediting, fact-checking, proofing, reporting, researching, and transcribing for stories that explore and celebrate Lowcountry life and culture.

We are currently seeking interns for Spring 2021. Interested candidates should contact Shelley Young ( and submit a cover letter, résumé, and three writing samples (each sample must not exceed 1,000 words). High school students will not be considered. The deadline to apply is December 11. Internships would start January 11.  The deadline to apply for Summer 2021 internships is March 15.

Charleston magazine style interns will learn the ins and outs of putting together monthly and quarterly publications. In addition to learning styling techniques and the requirements for producing photo shoots, interns will also gain experience in both the fashion and publishing industries.

Style internship duties include:
- Researching trends and fashion news
- Organizing and completing Google slideshows with scouting finds and trend research
- Picking up and returning merchandise
- Organizing and completing photo shot lists
- Assisting on photo shoots
- Contacting local and national retailers for use of merchandise and/or high-resolution images
- Shipping and receiving merchandise
- Updating local and national style department database
- Corresponding with local designers and retailers
- Assisting with additional editorial needs upon request

The advertising design department at Gulfstream Communications is seeking a design intern to work directly with the advertising art director in creating high-end advertisements for some of the areas most upscale clients. You will be designing creative for Gulfstream’s family of publications including: Charleston, Charleston Weddings, Grand Strand, WNC (Western North Carolina), and House Calls magazines.
