Floyd shares her design philosphy, as well as her favorite style picks
The past four years have been life-changing for the former floral designer and visual and creative director. The Spartanburg native has launched a design firm, Hunter Studio, married photographer Ben Gately Williams, and welcomed her first child in February. Floyd embraced each step with her signature aesthetic, seamlessly combining high and low, old and new items to create a modern look. She specializes in designing niche spaces for commercial clients, such as Urban Electric Company, The Ordinary, and the Cassique Clubhouse at Kiawah Island. Here, she shares her go-to style faves
Q How would you describe your style aesthetic?
A Dressing myself, I’m understated—lots of black and neutrals. But in design, I’m a maximalist: layers upon layers, pops of color, and combinations of tones. I’m a sucker for glitz so you’ll see polished chrome, brass, gold, and all things shiny.
Q You’re a new mom. Do you have a favorite carry-all bag?
A My Dagne Dover bags; they are awesome, super light and soft, while still hyperfunctional and good-looking, with a sleek design, monochromatic colorways, and lots of intentional pockets. I have a weekender bag, my “Daily” meeting tote turned-diaper bag, and a bigger travel tote.
Q Tell us about your nursery.
A Eclectic, playful, colorful, and I’ll note, maybe the only time I’ve ever used pink. I’m not a pink girl per se, but I do love a magenta or rose gold. I knew with a baby girl on the way, it would be fun to dabble in a little pink—my way. I saw this amber and pink rug from Nordic Knots (above right) and thought, okay, that’s where I’ll start! Flanking a blue velvet sofa are two electric blue floor lamps with Fermoie lampshades I got at Fritz Porter (above).
Q What’s your go-to outfit for your day-to-day life?
A I love a sneaker and a dress combo, a dress with pockets, of course. You’ll frequently catch me in a Rundholz dress. My dear friend Havens of Havens boutique is always sure to let me know when it hits the floor.
Q What’s the most treasured item in your wardrobe?
A My wedding dress, a gold sequined turtleneck gown, from the Marc Jacobs spring-summer 2020 runway collection. When my mom saw this in Vogue and sent me an iPhone snap of the page, I called Marc Jacobs’ New York showroom and had one of two in the US shipped to Charleston. It fit like a glove. Done and done.
Q Tell us about your skin-care routine.
A For years now, I’ve followed this regiment: La Roche-Posay face wash and Jurlique Rose “Moisture Plus Rare Rose Lotion” (above) every morning and night.
