Plus, Respoke offers different way to wear iconic designer scarves

Respoke opened in May on King Street, offering shoes, clothing, art, and furniture made with repurposed designer scarves.

Repurposed Fashion
Customers of fashion houses such as Hermès, Gucci, and Versace can find a different way to don their favorite luxury brands at Respoke, which repurposes designer scarves to make shoes, clothing, art, and even furniture. The company launched in Massachusetts in 2015 and has expanded to six locations, including King Street, where it opened in late spring. Cofounder and designer Chris Bartick said the owners were attracted to Charleston because of its “year-round location that carries a resort feel and has a nice balance of local and discovery shopping clientele.” Look for Respoke to host sip-and-shop events from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, when shoppers can enjoy a glass of cava and see new arrivals.

Dive in
Children’s resort and lifestyle brand Minnow will make a splash in Charleston early next month when it opens a 1,365-square-foot flagship store near the corner of King and Queen streets alongside other popular national brands. Founder Morgan Smith, who started Minnow in Laguna Beach, California, moved to the Holy City with her husband and three children just before the pandemic. In addition to its popular children’s swimsuits, shoppers will find transitional French terry separates, knits, pima cotton pajamas, backpacks and lunch boxes, and travel accessories, as well as an exclusive Charleston-themed collection. Just for Teens
Parent-approved tween and teen boutique Scraps of Magic has relocated to Bowman Place shopping center in Mount Pleasant just in time for back-to-school season and fall shopping. Local Elizabeth Baldwin debuted Scraps of Magic as an online store in 2018 after she had trouble finding cute, age-appropriate clothes for her tween daughter, and opened her first brick and mortar on King Street in March 2020. The new location is about the same size and is highly visible with easier parking. Baldwin says she plans to introduce new brands in sizes from six to 16.
