Plus, Smithey Ironware expands with a new showroom
Gregory Blake Sams opened Wentworth, a design-focused home decor and entertaining boutique, in a historic 19th-century storefront on the corner of Wentworth and Rutledge streets in June.
Experiential Shopping
Event planner Gregory Blake Sams, who honed his skills as Spoleto Festival USA’s special events manager, has debuted Wentworth, offering a curated collection of new, vintage, antique, and handcrafted items for home decor and entertaining “inspired by a keen eye, an adventurous spirit, and an instinct for things made with care.“ “We wanted the shop to feel warm and quaint—like a visit to a friend‘s beautifully curated home,” Sams said in a press release. Shoppers will find Limoges porcelain, hand-painted pillows and lamp shades, vintage and reproduction European silver, hand-blown glass bowls, hand-dipped taper candles, artisanal fragrances, and crystal lamps in the handsome 2,600-square-foot space. Sams and his team will offer interior design services by appointment. [162 Wentworth St., shopwentworth.com]
Seasoned Cookware
Smithey—the maker of heirloom-quality cast iron and carbon steel skillets treasured by professional and amateur chefs alike—has expanded, opening a new headquarters and showroom overlooking North Charleston’s Riverfront Park. Customers can examine the brand’s entire range of cookware and learn about which skillet, Dutch oven, roaster, or griddle is right for them. In the past year, Smithey has debuted the limited-edition Yellowstone skillet, a 14-inch iron skillet, the “Deep Farmhouse” skillet, and the extra-wide “Mighty” spatula. To fuel its growth, the company, which was founded in 2015 by Isaac Morton, also increased its production capacity and opened a warehouse and distribution facility in the old Navy Yard.
