Wed for Less
Wedding gowns start at $75 at the Junior League of Charleston’s fundraising Bridal Boutique, delivering nuptial bliss (complete with live music, hors d’oeuvres, and drinks) to the Dewberry Hotel’s ballroom on January 27. Local shops are purveying deeply discounted merchandise from high-end designers like Morilee, Vera Wang, Maggie Sottero, Carolina Herrera, and Jim Hjelm alongside veils, shoes, and accessories. Mother-of-the-bride and bridesmaid dresses also join cocktail and evening wear on the racks. https://www.jlcharleston.org/jlc-bridal-boutique-2018/
Ready to Rock?
The Old Village of Mount Pleasant isn’t exactly a place you’d expect to find John Lennon, Mick Jagger, or Tina Turner, and yet there they are, immortalized in the fine art photos hanging in Heart of Gold Gallery. Owner Aaron Zych connected with renowned music photographers—including Terry O’Neill, Ethan Russell, Neal Preston, and Joel Bernstein—while working in galleries in San Francisco and New York. And what you see on the walls of his new establishment “is less than one percent of what I have,” he says. ”Unframed photographs are also in drawers, and if you see a photograph you love in one of the books or catalogs, there’s a good chance it can be printed by the photographer.” 414 Whilden St., Ste. 101, Mount Pleasant; https://heartofgoldfineart.com/
Putting Down Roots
Floral designer Roadside Blooms opened a workshop-slash-retail emporium in Park Circle this fall. “I wanted to create an inspiring space filled with locally made goods,” says owner Toni Reale, who offers grab-and-go bouquets alongside wares such as jewelry, White Wolf Apothecary teas and candles, Dulce Earth skin elixirs, and pottery from Rebekah Dove. She’s already hosted happy-hour flower workshops and artisan markets in the backyard, with more on the way. [4824 Chateau Ave., North Charleston; https://www.roadsideblooms.com/
Place for Pampering
Belmond Charleston Place began the New Year prettier than ever: Elysium Salon opened its second downtown location in The Shops’ East Gallery, offering cuts, colors, specialty treatments, and updos, as well as makeup applications and lessons. And The Spa underwent renovations, reopening with a fresh look, as well as a new array of products and treatments. 205 Meeting St.; https://elysiumatcharlestonplace.com/, https://www.belmond.com/hotels/north-america/usa/sc/charleston/belmond-c...
