This August 21 to 24, our city plays host to roughly 300 beverage pros—mixologists, distillers, brewers, sommeliers, bartenders, you name it—during the inaugural BevCon Charleston. Masterminded by publicist Angel Postell (who cofounded Charleston Wine + Food back in 2006), the festival is four days of workshops, tastings, discussions, and, of course, fun.
While much of the schedule is geared toward those in the industry (some spots are still left; applicants must register in advance), several activities are open to the public, such as ingredient foraging with Matt and Ted Lee, brewing demos at Tradesman Brewing Co., a rum cruise on The Schooner Pride, and 18 area bar takeovers featuring pros from the likes of New Orleans, Atlanta, and New York City.
Bringing people from different corners of the beverage world together, Postell aims to provide a platform to compare all angles of the biz. “I also want there to be a focus on small-batch companies that don’t often appear on the main stage,” she notes.
In the Mix: BevCon runs August 21 to 24. More than 50 national and international experts will lead discussions, demos, and more. Register for excursions and get a schedule of bar takeovers at www.bevconchs.com.
