After graduating from College of Charleston mid-pandemic, Hannah Staib moved back home to Long Island, New York, and started experimenting with epoxy resin, transforming her parents’ basement into a studio. “I enjoy paintings and prints, but having a functional piece of art really excited me,” says Staib.
Having always been drawn to and inspired by the ocean, Staib started using epoxy resin mixed with acrylic paints to decorate wooden coasters, cheese boards, serving trays, and surfboards with crashing waves, finding the process both creatively and mentally fulfilling. “Art has really been my therapy my entire life; it’s something I can count on,” she says.
In March 2021, when she found out that Charleston City Market was taking new vendor applications, Staib “flew two checked bags full of artwork” to pitch her new business, Indulge in Art. After receiving an acceptance letter, she moved back to the Lowcountry “in a mad dash” two weeks later.
Beyond her booth at the market that she operates four to five days a week, Staib often sets up shop on the weekends at other events, including The Refinery’s Charleston Vintage Market, where she sells her epoxy creations, as well as art prints, many featuring imagery of Holy City landmarks and literature.
While Staib dreams of one day opening a studio downtown, she loves interacting with the community during markets. “For now, I love selling in person; I’ve always been someone who prefers to shop locally,” she says.
