FINALIST Professional category: Charleston Floods by Jeremy Clark; “Trying to make the best of a bad situation, some friends and I take to the flooded downtown streets of Charleston in a flyfishing skiff. Hurricane Joaquin combined with a stalled frontal system to create historic rainfall levels which were exacerbated by offshore winds and higher than normal "spring tides" and a lot of downtown was underwater.”
FINALIST Amateur category: Adventure by Minta Pavliscsak; “This is in Mt. Pleasant at a private residence. This was taken late April 2016, early evening. This is a very special spot for me. This was home for a couple of days, and where I celebrated my birthday with a dear friend.”
FINALIST Amateur category: The Giving Tree by Julia Shealy; “This old tree provided much adventure and fun for kids in my neighborhood. They build rope swings, hammocks, and used it as a diving board to plunge into the creek below.”
FINALIST Professional category: Swarm by Taylor Franta; “The birds come to life as the sun begins to warm the sky near the Morris Island Lighthouse on 3/3/16. During low tide a sandbar forms out by the lighthouse and the birds seem to enjoy resting their wings on this sandbar. As the tide comes in, however, they are forced to somewhere else to rest.”

He was so graceful and stoic which immediately caught my eye. Fortunate for me, he was intent on his fishing and never thought anything of my presence while I shot the image.”
HONORABLE MENTION Amateur category: Colors in the Swamp by Weatherly Meadors; “A few times a year, mainly in the spring when the light hits just the perfect angle, the surface of the water in this cypress swamp erupt into color palate worthy of any painter. The spectacle may be caused by tannins in the water created a sheen of oil on the surface that reflects the light back in this way. Taken at Caw Caw Interpretive Center, January 2016.”

The dolphin work together using echolocation to toss fish up onto the shore and then throw themselves on the bank to feed. They safely return to the water to try again if they are still hungry. Taken on Seabrook Island on September 15, 2015.”

We enjoy taking bike rides to the Battery, even during cold weather, because Charleston's historic architecture never gets old! The Battery is the perfect setting to watch the sunset. You never see the same sunset twice, so I'm glad I captured this particular one.”
