It may be no accident that the Avett Brothers launched from Concord, a town name that means, quite literally, harmony. This American Music Award-winning band proffers a sound as majestic and world-weary as the North Carolina foothills from which they hail. The Avett Brothers cultivate a genre-bending blend of folk, acoustic rock, and country soul music. Think Paul Simon—the ineffable spirit and timeless melodies—were he of Southern birth and Scotch-Irish ancestry. The band’s 2007 album, Emotionalism, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers Albums chart. Now touring in support of their new CD, I and Love and You, slated to be out on September 29, the brothers are facing the great expectations of living up to a major-label release. The group may have conquered Charleston before, but this time, the stakes are a bit higher. The Avett Brothers. North Charleston Performing Arts Center, 5001 Coliseum Dr., North Charleston.
