More than 70 authors of young adult books and their fans descend on Charleston for this weekend of panels, book signings, and the signature Smackdown, which brings the writers on stage for games and dancing. It’s easy to spot participants, who are loaded down with books and sometimes wait in long lines to get face time with their favorite novelists. Fantasy author Holly Black (The Cruel Prince) and up-and-coming talent Tochi Onyebuchi, author of Beasts Made of Night, headline the opening keynote session, where they’ll give readers a glimpse into their creative processes.
