Learn the rich history of sweetgrass basket weaving and take home a piece of art for yourself. The sweetgrass basket art form was brought to this country in the latter half of the 17th century by West Africans. Basket weaver Sarah Edwards-Hammond uses her long line of historical knowledge and family background of basket weaving to pass down this long-loved artisanal craft. The class includes a lesson on the historical background of the basket making craft as well as a guided, hands-on process of basket creation, with guests taking home their creations. Space is limited, reservations and masks are required. The Charleston Museum, 360 Meeting St. Saturday, 9:30am-1:30pm. $105, $75 members. (843)722-2996 ext. 224, www.charlestonmuseum.org
