“Statement Pieces: Contemporary Fashion Design and the Gibbes Collection”

See garments by Alexander McQueen, Gucci, and other designers alongside fashion-forward figures in 18th- and 19th-century paintings, midcentury abstract works, contemporary sculpture and mixed-media works from the museum’s permanent collection. The exhibit aims to “introduce innovative fashion” to audiences and “demonstrate the importance of design in a visual arts context.” Plan to visit before April, when the exhibit will serve as the inspiration for this year’s Art of Charleston, which is expected to feature Hill House Home founder Nell Diamond and the museum’s inaugural Sew Surreal fashion show, showcasing collections by Charleston-based designers. Gibbes Museum of Art, 135 Meeting St. Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. & Sunday 1-5 p.m. $12-$6. (843) 722-2706, www.gibbesmuseum.org
