Learn about the story of the Combahee River Raid from the perspective of Harriet Tubman and the enslaved individuals she helped free in this collaborative exhibition at the Gibbes Museum of Art. Carnegie Mellon University historian Edda Fields-Black’s latest book, Combee: Harriet Tubman, the Combahee River Raid, and Black Freedom during the Civil War, provides thorough insight into one of the largest and most successful slave rebellions in the United States, which took place along the blackwater river on June 2, 1863. This immersive exhibit, inspired by Fields-Black’s research, recreates the journey of the freedom seekers through historic art objects, video works, and images from environmental photographer J Henry Fair. Gibbes Museum of Art, 135 Meeting St. Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm, Sunday, 1-5pm. $12-$6. (843)722-2706, www.gibbesmuseum.org
