The Party: Luna de Esperanza Wines presented “The Evening,” a special wine dinner with chef Eric Milley of The Shellmore, chef Shuai Wang of Short Grain, and GrowFood Carolina’s Sara Clow. The party was held in The Shellmore’s intimate dining room and spilled out onto the portico and candlelit patio. Milley and Wang kicked off the evening with warm empanadas and nori-wrapped steak tartare, while John Zahl, aka DJ JAZ, spun an all-vinyl, internationally inspired soundtrack. Throughout the night, the 2013 vintage wines from Luna de Esperanza were paired with braised octopus with preserved tomato over a bean puree with crispy onions and chimichurri, a beef matambre with an estofado of garlic, smoked peppers, beef, onions and herbs, and a finale cheese course from Counter Cheese Cave’s Eric Casella. Following the meal, the evening was capped off with an auction benefiting GrowFood Carolina, an essential and celebrated resource for local produce in Charleston’s culinary industry.
