The Party: Charleston Hope is a local nonprofit dedicated to placing mentors into Title I schools to help academically at-risk students with their studies, as well as high-achievers that require more challenging coursework. During this fundraiser at Lagunita’s, the group raised more than $50,000, which will be used to fund PTC (parent teacher community) events, expand the program to more schools, and place additional mentors in classroom. While raising money for a great cause, guests munched on food from the restaurants and delicious mini desserts from Kaminski’s. Charleston Hope also presented awards to honor three members of the program: a teacher, Mrs. C., a mentor, Lizzie Mitchell, and a student, Purasia Williams, who have each done an exceptional job this past year.
The Highlight: Watching Purasia receive her award while her best friend excitedly cheered for her
Overheard: “Mrs. C. truly goes above and beyond for each one of her students.”
