La Coqueta children’s boutique is opening its first store in the US at The Charleston Place, which is undergoing a multimillion-dollar redesign.

Popping Up

A London-based children’s wear brand known for its nostalgic-yet-timeless designs has opened its first boutique in the US at The Shops at Charleston Place. La Coqueta, founded in 2013, offers Spanish-inspired clothing for children from newborn to age 10. Think hand-smocked floral dresses, gingham rompers, and matching sibling sets accented with white collars and dainty bows. Founder, creative director, and mother of five Celia Muñoz said the brand has many loyal customers in the Charleston market. “We create pieces that celebrate the magic of childhood and joy of family—timeless, traditional designs with a contemporary twist, made for life’s little adventures. These values align naturally with the spirit of Charleston and its infectious Southern charm, which we are proud to embrace,” she said in a statement. The long-term pop-up joins Sézane, La Ligne, and Buru, as well as locally owned Estelle Colored Glass and Short Court that all opened in the past year at the downtown hotel. Taking the Floor

After sourcing floor coverings from Amadi Carpets for years, Charleston-based interior designer Cortney Bishop is unveiling her first rug collection with the Los Angeles-based company this month. Each handwoven rug is inspired by vintage Swedish textiles and organic forms, and the designs feature earthy tones such as peach, ochre, and green. Bishop launched her bespoke design firm in 2007 and gained a reputation for creating contemporary spaces with a bohemian edge, setting her apart from the more traditional Southern aesthetic. In 2019, she debuted a fabric collection named Harwood House in collaboration with Holland & Sherry. [cortneybishop.com, amadicarpets.com]
