Sweetgrass Festival

Local artisans showcase the Gullah sweetgrass basketweaving tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation on the sea islands during this annual festival. In addition to browsing the handmade works at the craft show, you can hear Gullah storytelling, listen to local musicians, watch dance performances, and purchase offerings from food vendors. Don’t miss the A Taste of Sweetgrass Culture dinner hosted by the African American Settlement Community Historic Commission in the Cooper River Room on July 25 at 6 p.m. Note that there is no parking at Memorial Waterfront Park because of construction, but paid parking is available at the Ferry Wharf garage. In addition, shuttles will depart from Mount Pleasant Town Hall and the Cheryll Woods-Flowers Soccer Complex. Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park, 99 Harry M. Hallman Jr. Blvd., Mount Pleasant.
