In addition to making upward of 600 pastries a week for his business, Diego’s Empanadas, Funes began catering asados at clients’ homes.
Bring the Funk: “I met my wife at a James Brown concert in Argentina, so I like his music and funky stuff like The Meters.”
Top Cocktail: “Fernet and soda. But there has to be wine with an asado. Try Achaval Ferrer’s malbec from Mendoza.”
Dining Out: “I love Mexican food. I always get carne asada tacos, but the Mexican way from Torres Superettes with just onion, cilantro, and a little lime.”
Keeping the Beat: “I’ve been playing drums for 30 years. In Argentina, I used to tour the country with different bands, including Los Liones. Now, I just play in the house for myself.”
Puppy Love: “We got Arlo, a Cavalier, Shih Tzu, and poodle mix, about a year ago. My daughter came up with the name. He’s great except when he digs.”
