The Party: There was a celebratory vibe at Folly Beach’s Taco Boy for Waves 4 Women’s first fundraiser. About 200 guests sipped margaritas, sampled locally based Nock Tequila, built their own tacos, bid on silent auction items, and congratulated program participants. The nonprofit offers therapeutic surf lessons to women experiencing trauma, depression, anxiety, loss, or substance abuse to help strengthen their physical and emotional health. The $25,000 raised at the event will help fund scholarships to the program, as well as the purchase of wet suits that will allow lessons to be offered year-round.
Highlight: Food and drinks from Taco Boy, as well as an inspirational video featuring women sharing how the nonprofit has helped them
Overheard: “Raise your hands higher!” during a speed-fundraising round, asking supporters to donate $250 to sponsor a surfer
