The internationally renowned New York dance company returns to Charleston to present a program combining new and classic works. Both nights feature Ailey’s treasured “Revelations,” which premiered in 1960 and is one of the most widely seen modern dance performances in the world. Based on Ailey’s childhood experiences of growing up in rural Texas, the choreography explores deep grief and joy through African American spirituals, sermons, gospel songs, and blues.
