The Party: The Carolina Youth Development Center, which empowers abused, neglected, and underprivileged youth in the community by way of a safe environment and a number of support programs, hosted its 14th annual fundraising gala, “A Night for the Children.” This year’s event was held in the Memminger Auditorium, where guests had the opportunity to mingle and meet some of the children supported by the CYDC. After patrons were seated for a dinner Mosaic Catering, the program continued with a number of speakers, including a special moment when Akil Grant, a recent graduate of Berkeley High School and CYDC resident, took the stage and told of the organization’s impact. During the speeches it was announced that the Cummins Foundation would be awarding the CYDC with a $100,000 grant to renovate their Transition House, an independent living home intended to meet the needs of kids aging out of foster care. The evening ended with an open dance floor as guests boogied to live music from Midnight City Band.
