Prepare your workstation, wearing gloves to protect your hands from dye in the moss. Soak a sheet of moss (shown in container at far left) in a container of water until it is damp.

Pour soil into a clean container and add water until soil is damp enough that you can shape it into a sphere about four to eight inches in diameter. (Larger spheres give root systems more room to grow.)
