Famed artist Shepard Fairey and deep-sea explorer Dr. Robert Ballard (of Titanic fame) are coming to town, the Greeks are ready to opa it up, and big-band tunes will take over Enston Memorial Hall: exciting times are ahead! Below, our picks for the events to catch over the next eight days.
South Carolina Aquarium Conservation Gala
May 8
This elegant event on the South Carolina Aquarium’s tented lawn always wows, but considering that Dr. Robert Ballard—the deep-sea explorer who discovered the Titanic—is being awarded the Environmental Stewardship Award this year, we have to say, we’re more excited than ever. A cocktail reception precedes the seated dinner and awards ceremony, and the party continues with live entertainment at the After-Affair. South Carolina Aquarium, 100 Aquarium Wharf. Preservation Party

Throw back to the 1940s for a glamorous night of big band music and swing dancing benefitting Seven to Save, a Preservation Society of Charleston initiative that raises funds, awareness, and support for key preservation projects in Charleston. Don your ’40s glam, dress whites, or even black tie, and head to Enston Memorial Hall for a fun night celebrating the Holy City’s rich culture. Race through historic Middleton Place during this picturesque and adrenaline-filled event, which provides a healthful way to celebrate Mother’s Day. Runners can participate in a 5K or 15K, with proceeds going to the Palmetto House, a Summerville shelter that provides temporary housing for homeless women and families.
