Growing Wisdom - Susan Epstein's Garden

Today, it’s a haven where blooming garden rooms string together to form elegant vistas. Yet it also treats visitors to whimsical surprises....

Through the Years: The Epsteins’ home was built in 1934 on former strawberry fields along Old Towne Road in West Ashley. Susan and David purchased it in 1994 and have since added a pool, lush garden rooms, and inviting pathways to the nearly two-acre property.

Resources:

Landscape design: Thomas Angell of Verdant Enterprises (now based in Savannah) helped Susan site the pool and design the surrounding hardscape. He also designed the hill and plantings to screen the street.
Lighting: Michael Rollins, owner of Charleston’s Moonlighting Landscape Lighting Systems, added accent lights around the pool and fountain.
Tree & shrub care: Virginia-based Trevor Curtis does specialty pruning work—shaping creative focal points and more. Twice a year, Tony Hernandez of TH Landscaping prunes the large shrubs and small trees.
