The YWCA Greater Charleston hosts its annual MLK Celebration and parade on January 20

The City of Charleston has long heralded the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968) with festive processions, featuring floats, color guards, bands, and local personalities. This month, YWCA Greater Charleston hosts its annual MLK Celebration, the largest event of its kind in the state, featuring a youth open mic night (1/18), an ecumenical service at Charity Missionary Baptist Church (1/18), and a parade (1/20), which starts at 9 a.m. at Burke High School and ends at Mother Emanuel AME Church.
