When we asked Haute Design principal Beverly Bohan to conjure a welcoming guest room, she reached for classic pieces with wide appeal. Traditional silhouettes, such as a chaise lounge and pedestal table, are accented by accessories, including a painting by area artist Linda Fantuzzo and china in the same pattern found in the Nathaniel Russell House, that provide local interest.

On what inspired this look: “Chinese-export porcelain has long been popular in Charleston—it’s one of the most commonly found objects at archeological sites. The ‘Sacred Bird and Butterfly’ pattern is a reference to timeless chinoiserie; the Jim Thompson pillow fabric was inspired by a 16th-century silk carpet from China,” says Bohan.
