Building on the artist’s interests in language preservation and indigenous musicology, this exhibition from the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art presents Native American artist and composer Elisa Harkin’s ongoing project, started in 2021, in its entirety for the first time. By asking collaborators to “teach her a song,” Harkins, who made her debut at this year’s Spoleto Festival USA, hopes to promote the sharing and trading of musical traditions, placing value on traditional music and folk songs.
