If you’re going to run 13.1 miles, might as well make it a scenic route. The flat terrain, cool-but-not-frigid temps, and downtown Charleston race route that starts at Burke High School before winding through Hampton Park, along the Ashley River, the Battery, and past Rainbow Row are what draw participants to this event. Along the way, runners are encouraged by marching bands and cheerleaders. Register to participate in the sister Myrtle Beach Marathon on March 1 for the coveted “Bless Your Heart” medal. You’ll deserve it! Or opt for the 5K or youth marathon. Proceeds benefit Engaging Creative Minds, which uses the funds to offer grants to local teachers.
