For the past four decades, artist Jonathan Green and his partner and studio director, Richard Weedman, have amassed more than 1,300 sculptures, paintings, and works on paper. Beginning this month at the Gibbes, you can see 49 selections from their private collection, which explore themes of love, work, belonging, and spirituality. Whether it be a moment of fondness between a parent and child or the fight for racial equality, the works showcase the partners’ personal aesthetics and the inspirations behind their own works. Artists featured include Green, Elizabeth Catlett, David Driskell, Sam Gilliam, Ruben Gonzalez, Jacob Lawrence, Reynier Llanes, and Charles White. On September 10, take a virtual tour of the exhibit with Green.
