For the past four decades, artist Jonathan Green and his partner and studio director, Richard Weedman, have amassed more than 1,300 sculptures, paintings, and works on paper. Beginning this month at the Gibbes, you can see 49 selections from their private collection, which explore themes of love, work, belonging, and spirituality. Whether it be a moment of fondness between a parent and child or of the fight for racial equality, the works showcase the partners’ personal aesthetics and the inspirations behind their own works. Artists featured include Green, Ralph Arnold, Elizabeth Catlett, David Driskell, Sam Gilliam, Ruben Gonzalez, Reynier Llanes, and Charles White. The Gibbes Museum of Art, 135 Meeting St. Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm; Sunday, 1pm-5pm. $12; $10 ages 13-17; $5 ages three-12. (843)722-2706, www.gibbesmuseum.org
