Style Q&A: Julia Engel

Style Q&A: Julia Engel

Chatting with the crazy-successful Gal Meets Glam blogger, who moved last fall from San Francisco to the Old Village with her husband, and photographer, Thomas

Q Tell us about turning your blog into a full-time job.
A
I was working in marketing and spending all my spare hours on Gal Meets Glam. I was lucky to be making more on my blog than I was at my job, so I decided to see what would happen if I devoted 100 percent of my time to it

Q What’s a must-have spring accessory?
A
Basket bags! Those by Cult Gaia and SeagrassTotes go with everything and are affordable.

Q Fill us in on your bicycle collection.
A
We love riding our bikes everywhere. We brought two from San Francisco—mine is a beach cruiser by Public—and then we bought Pure City cruisers to have for visiting friends and family.

Q Any tips for staying productive?
A
We like Trello for task management and Slack for communicating within our small team. We’ve focused lately on keeping consistent hours at our desks. In the past, we’d wind up working on the couch all day or running errands during crucial work hours, which led to lower productivity.

Q Who’s a San Francisco maker we need to know?
A
Tiffanie Turner of papelSF creates amazing giant paper flowers. We have one of her peonies in our living room.

Q What spring/summer collection are you loving?
A
I’ve bought so many pieces from Sea NY—many from Hampden Clothing. There’s a lot of eyelet, lace, and cotton, which is all I want to wear in warmer months. The color palette is soft and dreamy.
