“A Dark Place of Dreams: Louise Nevelson with Chakaia Booker, Lauren Fensterstock, & Kate Gilmore”

Back in 1983, “Louise Nevelson, Sculpture” filled the Gibbes Museum’s Main Gallery. To honor the 35th anniversary of Nevelson’s unforgettable exhibition, the Gibbes now revisits the pioneering 20th-century sculptor’s monochromatic assemblages. The new exhibit brings in pieces by artists Chakaia Booker, Kate Gilmore, and Lauren Fensterstock (whose 2016 work in shells, wood, and mixed media, The Order of Things, is shown above), conveying the impact that the late Nevelson had on contemporary sculptors. The Gibbes Museum of Art, 135 Meeting St. Tuesday & Thursday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Wednesday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sunday, 1-5 p.m. $15; $13 senior; $10 college student; $6 under 18.
