A colorful bottlecap of Burt Reynolds in Smokey and the Bandit by local artist Molly B. Wright playfully invites visitors into this stylish Daniel Island residence, a reader favorite that we first published in July 2019.strong foundation: With its pitched roofline, painted-brick exterior, and arched entry, the 6,000-square-foot residence nods to French countryside architecture. Architect Damien Busillo and builder Roy Mahshie worked together to ensure this marsh-front property is as strong as it is stunning. The back deck features planks of hardy, rot-resistant garapa, and the windows meet impact requirements for hurricane-force winds.White oak built-ins match the open-concept kitchen’s custom cabinetry. The moody hues of the foyer—shiplap painted in Farrow & Ball “Down Pipe”—continue into the living room around the dramatic fireplace. Crushed velvet chairs and an abstract painting by Jill Pumpelly add depth to the otherwise neutral palette. In the streamlined kitchen, designer Hollis Erickson handpicked slabs of Calacatta Namibia honed marble for the backsplash and island face and topped the counters in durable quartz. In the butler’s pantry, where small appliances are tucked away, colorful artworks spiff up the utilitarian room.A stone-topped Restoration Hardware dining table overlooks the marsh.A walk-in wine cellar located off the foyer houses vintages collected during the family’s travels. In the primary bedroom, poplar-clad walls, a velvet lumbar pillow (fabric from Ardmore Fabrics), velvet headboard (custom designed by Erickson and upholstered by Powell’s Upholstery), and antiqued glass mirrors layer on the luxe.White oak cabinetry and a vintage runner warm the marble-clad bath, while sconces from Circa Lighting and an angular, custom-designed bench (over which a coastal scene snapped by Gray Malin hangs) add modern style in spades.High-Style HavenBoasting a foosball table and big-screen TV, the bunk room is a dream for sleepovers. Even so, its full bath, balcony access, and quartet of comfy beds make it equally inviting to visiting adults.Overlooking the pool and Ralston Creek, the comfortably appointed, covered back porch is a prime relaxation spot during all seasons, complete with a wood-burning fireplace, retractable screens, and a ceiling fan.Beverages are at the ready in the adjacent poolroom and its bar with a self-serve wine dispenser.High-Style HavenHigh-Style HavenHigh-Style HavenHigh-Style HavenHigh-Style HavenHigh-Style HavenHigh-Style HavenHigh-Style HavenHigh-Style HavenHigh-Style HavenHigh-Style Haven
