UKWELI: SEARCH FOR HEALING TRUTH

The McLeod Plantation Historic Site hosts poetry readings and discussions exploring the history of racial disparities. The five-part series concludes this month with poetry readings from author Horace Mungin and scholarly discussions moderated by South Carolina Public Radio host Osei Chandler. The theme of the November 7 lecture is “The Bible and the Rope,” looking at tools groups have historically used to intimidate Black people, while the November 21 topic is “Establishing the Literary Link,” examining how Black women have used writing to oppose unequal treatment of Black people. A live stream also will be available on the McLeod Plantation Historic Site’s Facebook page. McLeod Plantation Historic Site, 325 Country Club Dr. Saturday, 1-2:30pm. Free.
