THE FERNTASTIC LEGACY OF CHARLESTON’S VICTORIAN-ERA HOUSEPLANTS

Horticultural enthusiasts of the Victorian era coined the term “fern-fever” to describe the growing popularity of fern decoration to transform a room into a tropical oasis. Join Meeting Green Gardens owner Kendal Leonard and The Historic Charleston Foundation to learn more about these fern-tastic houseplants, as well as how to care for them. An extension of the Foundation’s Food for Thought Luncheon Series, guests are treated to a light lunch of salads and sandwiches at the historic Captain James Missroon House with views of Charleston’s High Battery and Harbor. Proceeds from the event will support the Historic Charleston Foundation’s missions of historic preservation and advocacy. Advance ticket purchase is required. Captain James Missroon House, 40 E. Bay St. Friday, 11:30am–1pm. $55. (843)723-1623, https://www.historiccharleston.org/blog/events/
