THE CARRION CHEER: A FAUNISTIC TRAGEDY

German art duo Böhler and Orendt transform College of Charleston’s Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art into a “makeshift transdimensional stopover camp” for this summer exhibition. The installation features visions of extinct animals—such as the Carolina parakeet and Pinta Island tortoise—housed under individual tents connected to create a pathway through which the audience can move and view the creatures. This large-scale exhibit challenges current conceptions of human intelligence while discussing the extinction of many species. Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, 161 Calhoun St. Monday-Saturday,11am-4pm; Thursday, 11am-7pm. Free. (843)953-4422, www.halsey.cofc.edu
