If you’re wondering where Alabama-born singer Paul Janeway’s magnetic stage presence comes from, it’s likely due to his previous training to become a preacher (hence the tongue-in-cheek name of the rock/soul band). The Southern group holds on to those powerful gospel roots with their otherworldly vocals and toe-tapping beats, which have garnered the attention of music festivals across the country as well as late-night shows such as Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Show with David Letterman, and more. The band’s most recent album, Young Sick Camellia, is largely autobiographical for Janeway, paying homage to his ailing grandfather (who has since passed). The new songs showcase the band’s reverence for their Southern upbringing through their retro-soul sound. Charleston Music Hall, 37 John St. Sunday & Monday, 8pm. $55-$45.
