Space Day

Revel in the success of the Apollo 8 mission 50 years later as the Patriots Point Maritime & Naval Museum celebrates the USS Yorktown's recovery of the space capsule. On December 27, 1968, the USS Yorktown brought Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders back to land after they orbited the moon, becoming the first men to complete a lunar orbit and safely return to Earth. During the special "Space Day" commemoration at Patriots Point, board a replica of the Apollo 8 capsule, attend the premier of a Patriots Point interview with Captain Lovell, see pieces of real meteorite, and experience the "Journey to Planet X" virtual reality program. Patriots Point Maritime & Naval Museum, 40 Patriots Point Rd., Mount Pleasant. Saturday, 10am-2pm. $24; free child under six. (843)884-2727, patriotspoint.org
