The Party: Now in its fifth year, this “Denim and Diamonds”-themed party was hosted by the Monka Foundation at Cannon Distillery’s Rickhouse to honor the life of Insley Horn, who died from a brain tumor in 2021. Guests grooved to tunes from local acts Run River Run and the Chewbacky Band and perused auction items, such as vacation packages, private dinners, and works of art. Vendors included Kendra Scott Jewelry, who offered Insley-inspired pieces, as well as B’s Trucker Hats, who outfitted attendees with custom bandanas and caps. In 2021, the Monka Foundation was created by Insley’s parents, Karen and Wade Horn, with the commitment of raising funds for pediatric brain cancer research and supporting local children undergoing treatment through the Darby Children’s Research Institute of MUSC.
Beneficiary: Dr. Jezabel Rodriguez-Blanco’s lab at MUSC received $50,000 to continue the study of new treatments for medulloblastoma, the most common malignant pediatric brain tumor.
