Two of the Halsey’s most thought-provoking recent installments confront racial stereotypes using irony and wit. New Orleans-based Katrina Andry explores how stereotypes affect ideology and policy, specifically gentrification. Her visceral large-scale prints challenge viewers to consider the unjust perpetuation of derogatory clichés. Meanwhile, local artist Colin Quashie critiques how modern culture portrays people of color by blending images of well-known black figures with historical artifacts. His piece Rose Colored, for example, depicts Harriet Tubman donning rose-colored glasses derived from slave shackles.
