Style Q&A: Jewelry Designer Rene Barnes Shares Her Go-tos For Thoughtful Gift-giving
December 2025

Plus, find out what inspired her to launch her business

Whenever the College of Charleston grad wandered into a jewelry store, she was filled with joy, but noticed that it was rare to find pieces with character. So, in 2022, the Hartsville native called on her background in studio art, sculpture, and interior design to launch her fine jewelry collection with pieces crafted to feel personal and intended to become treasured heirlooms. The self-taught designer’s hand-sculpted solid gold pieces with her signature finish can be found at her showroom and on her website, as well as at select retailers, including RTW and Wentworth. Here, Barnes shares her treasured holiday traditions and where she shops for thoughtful gifts.

Q: Tell us about a favorite design and how you style it.

A: The “Classic” diamond necklace and earrings, paired with the “Crown Diamond Cuff,“ are some of my go-to pieces. They play beautifully with everything and add just the right touch of sparkle.

Q: What are your must-have skin-care products?

A: Rawlins Studio is a must. Kate Rawlins gives the best facials, and without her, I’d be lost. Golden Child Cleanser (above) goes everywhere with me; it’s the best cleanser on the market.

Q: What are your plans for the holidays, and what will you wear?

A: We gather everyone and host Christmas in Charleston. Our big cocktail party on Christmas Day has become one of our most treasured traditions. I’m definitely wearing a pair of Manolos from RTW. I love splurging each year and picking out a pair. It’s fun to look back in my closet and see shoes that instantly remind me of that Christmas.

Q: Who is one of your most-admired local makers?

A: Lia Burke Libaire did a snail painting for us, and it’s one of my favorites in our house. It’s a constant reminder for me that good things take time. Her stationery (above) makes a great gift.

Q: What’s your ideal gift for others for the holidays?

A: I always try to think about the person I’m buying for, choosing an object that could complement their home and be cherished forever, such as this Gaius Octavian  platter (above), available at Wentworth. Wentworth always does the trick for me when it comes to anything gift related.
