Our taste-and-tell guide to some of the latest and most noteworthy food-and-beverage offerings

Three Sirens

This cozy sliver of an eatery in hopping Park Circle is the second project for co-owners Matt Tunstall and Justin Croxall, opening across the street from their Mediterranean-inspired wine bar, Stems & Skins, in December. The former YoBo Cantina Fresca building got a whimsical, nautical makeover, with glittering star wallpaper, hand-shaped sconces, and a long cobalt blue bar. There, chef Julian Lippe serves a handful of thoughtful plates elevating fresh seafood, such as smoked fish croquettes with red pepper jam, crispy Spanish octopus, and a popular potato rosti served with crème fraîche and a heavy spoonful of smoked trout roe. The intimate dining room makes for a great date night. Don’t forget to save room for the sinful chocolate pot de crème or a slice of lemon olive oil cake served with blood orange. threesirenschs.com

Maya

While we were sad to see Macintosh leave the upper King Street scene last year, the Indigo Road Hospitality Group delivered a fresh concept, regional Mexican cuisine, in September. The rustic industrial interiors have been warmed with new lights and Mexican baskets, but the real transformation is in the sexy back patio (heated on chilly nights) with trendy groupings of rattan chandeliers and a live plant mural, channeling the boho vibes of Tulum. Start with one of the handcrafted margaritas or smoky mezcal cocktails, along with the antojitos (appetizers), such as the light and bright guacamole or diver scallops in aguachile. An in-house masa program means chips and corn tortillas are freshly made; and the entire dinner menu is gluten-free. Tacos (don’t skip the brisket) and entrees, such as pollo en mole, round out the offerings. Among the desserts, the flourless tres chocolates cake alone makes it worth the trip downtown. mayachs.com
