In honor of Caribbean American Heritage Month, Charleston Carifest brings a four-day Carnival celebration to the Lowcountry. Carnival is traditionally a big party leading up to Lent, held annually throughout the Caribbean; the festival celebrates culture, religion, art, and diversity. Charleston’s Carifest showcases a different Caribbean country each year, with this year’s bash highlighting the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Much more than just a party, Carnival is a creative and artistic expression of Caribbean culture. Experience this treasured tradition with an educational symposium and opening reception, a parade, and the Carnival Village celebration in Brittlebank Park. Locations and times vary. Thursday-Sunday. Free. (843)557-6258, www.charlestoncarifest.com
