A cascading tumble of cymbidium, dendrobium, and James Storei orchids hung from the ship’s cable railings created a floating tropical paradise. String long-lasting, hardy flowers (like these orchids) together for party garlands.

Choose a menu that reinforces your theme. Here, Jamaican potato salad, grouper cevice with hand-cut tortilla chips, and turnips with Serrano-mango coulis from Iverson Catering were Caribbean treats that made sense for the tropical affair.

Welcome guests with passed drinks like these trays of rum punch garnished with pineapple and snapdragon blossoms.

Simple stems of single flowers create a high impact arrangement when placed together. To create this look, fill complementary containers of varying heights and silhouettes with your favorite flowers and place in odd-numbered clusters throughout a party space. For a local touch, mix in fresh greens from the garden, like the kumquats at back right.
