Season’s Greetings: Sweetgrass Dreams

Hand-made chocolate brown invitations incorporated blades of sweetgrass, setting the stage for the rich Lowcountry traditions of the reception.

Event planner Melissa Barton designed a guest book and favor station where guests could glimpse family photos from the 1920s through the ’50s and write their well-wishes for the future of the happy couple.

Glass cylinders filled with sweetgrass and candles glowed atop burnt-orange table runners. Curly willow made an elegant impression alongside suspended spheres of scarlet roses.

Sprigs of coffee berries and sweetgrass tied a menu card to each napkin.

Fresh shrimp, passed as an hors d’oeuvre, was decorated with a strand of sweetgrass—a subtle and elegant nod to the reception’s theme.

Sipping Scarlett O’Haras in martini glasses.

Guests dined on oysters on the half-shell.

The pièce de résistance was the three-tiered cake from Ashley Bakery, piped with incredibly convincing “woven sweetgrass” icing and topped with a romantic rose.
