Heather’s mother designed the wedding monogram.
Both mothers carried orchid clusters.
White iris and peonies accented with green cymbidium orchids made an elegant bouquet with just a touch of color.
“It started raining again during our pictures, but it didn’t matter,” says Heather. “We had a wonderful time.”
Heather was raised in the Jewish faith, but wanted a simple ceremony that wasn’t overtly religious. Thus Tara created a simple wooden chuppah that looks as though it is part of Brookgreen’s hardscape but provides the Jewish symbolism of building a home together. Planters filled with an abundance of irises and greens further dressed the site.
Green orchids adorned flutes of champagne.
Bright blue hydrangeas and white iris in glossy white pails hung on blue satin ribbons from the chuppah and from the shepherd’s hooks that lined the aisle.
A comfortable lounge with soft cushioned wicker chairs.
Orchid streamers decorated each table umbrella. On-and-off summer showers made the chic coverage a smart choice; and had it been sunny, they would have shielded guests from the heat.
Stamped vintage Pawleys Island postcards allowed guests to write sweet sentiments to Heather and Blake; the couple received the missives for weeks after their Hawaiian honeymoon.
Appetizer-portions of shrimp and grits were served in Chinese spoons and passed on beachy trays dressed with shells.
Heather and Blake laughed throughout their dinner by Austin’s at Pawleys, which included local watermelon salad, beef filet with pancetta, parmesan soufflé, and tomato-lobster whipped potatoes
The luscious wedding cake by Jim Smeal was a medley of the wedding’s colors: tone-on-tone celadon icing with white sugarpaste gardenias and layers filled with lemon and blueberry. Rather than design a towering cake—which would have been more imposing and formal than the event’s style—Jim opted for a trio of coordinating creations.
